Find out how to get to the Observatory from Edinburgh Waverley rail station
The taxi rank is situated adjacent to Platform 7. A black cab will cost between £6 and £8 and should take between 10 and 15 minutes, depending on traffic. If the taxi rank is busy, there is also a taxi rank on Waverley Bridge (exit by the ramp adjacent to Platform 19 and turn right) which is sometimes quieter.
See getting to the Royal Observatory by bus from the city centre for details about bus services from the city centre.
To catch the services 41, 42 or 67, please note that these services are currently subject to diversion due to tram works in the city centre. Please consult the Lothian Buses website for further details.
To catch the services 3, 3A, 7, 8, 29, 31, 37, 47 or 49, you should depart Waverley station by the escalator adjacent to Platform 19 then up the steps onto Princes Street. (Disabled visitors might prefer to use the ramps adjacent to Platforms 11 and 19, which exits onto Waverley bridge, before turning right onto Princes Street.) Once on Princes Street, head to your right, past the Balmoral Hotel and on to the junction with North Bridge. Cross onto the other side of North Bridge and head right onto the bridge itself. Then follow our instructions on getting to JCMB by bus from the city centre.
