A possible statistical mechanism of anomalous neutrino velocity in OPERA experiment?

Event details

Abstract

It is argued that the recently reported "superluminal neutrinos" could be accounted for a purely statistical effect due to the fact that only a very small fraction of initial protons is transformed into finally observed neutrinos. A simple one-dimensional model of a strongly damped Gaussian wave-packet is used to give an explanation consistent with the experimental data.

About Condensed Matter journal club

Given the diversity of research in the CM group, chosen topics vary widely. We tend to stick to high-impact journals - Nature, Science, PNAS and PRL have been popular - but this is not prescriptive..
