Degree flexibility

Degree courses offered by the School of Physics and Astronomy come in a number of flavours, allowing you to choose the degree that suits you best:

  • We offer a range of single honours and joint honours courses allowing you to tailor your degree to suit your interests.
  • Many of our degrees programmes are offered as both BSc Honours and MPhys Honours degrees. The MPhys involves an extra year of study.
  • Degree courses at Scottish Universities typically last one year longer than their counterparts in the rest of the UK. Our broad based degree programmes follow this pattern and normally take 4 years for BSc and 5 years for MPhys.
  • We also offer a more focused fast track degree programme, taking 3 years for the BSc and 4 year for the MPhys.
  • Our Foundation Programme is designed for international students whose qualifications are not recognised by the University. It leads directly to the second year of many College degree courses.
  • In all our degrees, you can choose to study a number of outside courses.

With so many options available to you, you may find yourself a bit perplexed and confused. Don't worry! In many cases, you can change your mind once you have got here. More information on choosing the right options is given in our How to apply page.
