The University of Edinburgh.
The School of Physics.
Research Associate in Particle Physics.

The University of Edinburgh’s experimental particle physics group is seeking a research associate to work on experimental physics research in support of the construction and operation of the International Linear Collider.

You will join a small team of people working on linear collider physics at Edinburgh.  We are working with Linear Collider Flavour Identifier (LCFI) collaboration, which is designing the next generation of column-parallel CCDs as a potential technology for the ILC vertex detector, and working on physics studies for the ILC.  You will work with the LCFI collaboration; current work in the group includes studies of bottom and charm quark signals in the vertex detector and the development of tracking and vertexing software.  You will also have an opportunity to work with local particle physics phenomenologists and within one of the ILC detector proto-collaborations.

A recent PhD in particle physics, or a related discipline is required.  Experience of a computer programming in a scientific language such as java, fortran or C++ and with Linux/Unix systems is highly desirable.  Experience working within international scientific collaborations will be an advantage.

Salary will be awarded on the University of Edinburgh grade 7 (£26402 - £31525).
The post is located at the University of Edinburgh.

Closing date:  31st January 2006.
