Vincent Martinez was awarded his Msc in materials science engineering at the Polytech Grenoble (Universite Joseph-Fourier, Grenoble, France) in 2002. Shortly after, he was appointed as a junior research scientist at the Centre for Polymer Research (COMEX group, Mexico). In 2005, he started his PhD at the state-of-the-art scattering lab of the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (Melbourne, Australia) to investigate the freezing and glass transition by measuring the dynamics of concentrated suspensions of colloidal particles. In 2009, he started a Post-doc position at Soft Matter Physics group of the University of Edinburgh (UK). He is currently a Marie-Curie Research Fellow (EU-FP7 IIF) since 2011 investigating the physics of active particle (self-propelled particles such as microorganisms) suspensions and specifically mixtures of both active and passive (non-motile microorganisms, colloids, polymer) suspensions.

  • Diffusion in complex polymeric media
  • Dynamics and structure of concentrated colloidal suspensions (e.g. hard spheres, anisotropic magnetic colloid, ...)
  • Phase transitions, e.g. freezing transition, glass transition
  • New methods for high-throughput characterisation of the motility of microorganisms (e.g. bacteria, algae, spermatozoa)
