There is currently an interesting 3.5 standard deviation discrepancy between the Standard Model prediction of the muon $g-2$ and its experimental measurement at the BNL experiment. New experiments are starting at FNAL and J-PARC to try to investigate this result. On the theoretical side, it is crucial to similarly refine the current Standard Model prediction. I am part of a wide effort of the RBC-UKQCD collaboration which aims at predicting precisely and unambiguously the hadronic contributions to $g-2$ which are currently the dominant source of theoretical uncertainty.
