Event details

The discovery of a Higgs-like boson, together with no hint of the existence of any additional new particle, makes us face with the problem of finding strategies to study the properties of the electroweak symmetry breaking sector. An appealing model-independent framework is offered by Effective Field Theories. In this seminar, the effective Lagrangian that describes a light Higgs-like boson will be reviewed, focusing on the reasonable case in which the Higgs particle is a CP-even scalar of an SU(2)_L doublet. The dimension-6 operators which encode the leading New Physics effects will be presented, highlighting in particular their effects on physical observables and their current bounds. Finally, first attempts to bring the Higgs Effective Field Theory from LO to NLO, in view of a precision Higgs physics phase, will be presented.

About Particle Physics Theory seminars

The Particle Physics Theory seminar is a weekly series of talks reflecting the diverse interests of the group. Topics include analytic and numerical calculations based on the Standard Model of elementary particle physics, theories exploring new physics, as well as more formal developments in gauge theories and gravity..
