Constraining Grand Unification Scenarios using the First and Second Generation Sfermion Masses

  • Event time: 2:00pm
  • Event date: 18th April 2012
  • Speaker: Antonio Morais (University of Glasgow)
  • Location: Lecture Theatre C,

Event details

In this seminar I will discuss Supersymmetric Grand Unification Theories (SUSY GUTs), focussing on the standard SU(5), SO(10) and E6 candidates. A review of the main motivations for SUSY GUTs and the key features of SU(5), SO(10) and E6 representation theory are also addressed. I will then examine the mass spectrum of the first and second generation of squarks and sleptons, providing a testable comparison of the alternative group structures. I will finally discuss how the first and second generations can be used to constrain the third generation, showing some results for the physical masses of the Higgs Bosons and third generation sfermions under the SU(5) and SO(10) symmetries.

About Particle Physics Theory seminars

The Particle Physics Theory seminar is a weekly series of talks reflecting the diverse interests of the group. Topics include analytic and numerical calculations based on the Standard Model of elementary particle physics, theories exploring new physics, as well as more formal developments in gauge theories and gravity..
