Event details

The equilibrium phase diagram for polydisperse (i.e. randomly-sized) hard spheres has been extensively investigated by simulation and theory. In this talk, however, it will be shown that the phase diagram may be inapplicable to real colloidal crystals, since they are out of equilibrium. We can learn more by modelling the growth kinetics of polydisperse crystals, since their properties are fixed during formation.

About Condensed Matter lunchtime seminars

This is a weekly series of informal talks given primarily by members of the institute of condensed matter and complex systems, but is also open to members of other groups and external visitors. The aim of the series is to promote discussion and learning of various topics at a level suitable to the broad background of the group. Everyone is welcome to attend..
