Condensed Matter lunchtime seminar

Statistical geometry...and freezing of a few hardspheres

  • Event time: 1:00pm
  • Event date: 5th March 2001
  • Speaker: Professor Alastair Bruce (Formerly School of Physics and Astronomy, University of Edinburgh)
  • Location: Room 2511,

Event details

The statistical mechanics of hard-spheres can be couched in essentially geometrical terms; the resulting framework is known as 'statistical geometry' [1]. I will review some of the key concepts and do a journal-club-job on a related paper describing freezing in small systems of hard spheres [2].

About Condensed Matter lunchtime seminars

This is a weekly series of informal talks given primarily by members of the institute of condensed matter and complex systems, but is also open to members of other groups and external visitors. The aim of the series is to promote discussion and learning of various topics at a level suitable to the broad background of the group. Everyone is welcome to attend..
