Charged Non-Aqueous Colloids

Event details

Recent use of confocal microscopy to study phase behaviour has necessitated the introduction of dyed molecules into the model hard-sphere poly (methyl methacrylate) colloids used by many people in this group and abroad. One of the unwanted side- effects of this is that the particles appear to gain a small electrostatic charge which alters the concentrations at which some the effects under study occur. The source of this charge and what effect it has on the particles will be discussed.

About Condensed Matter lunchtime seminars

This is a weekly series of informal talks given primarily by members of the institute of condensed matter and complex systems, but is also open to members of other groups and external visitors. The aim of the series is to promote discussion and learning of various topics at a level suitable to the broad background of the group. Everyone is welcome to attend..
