Event details

We will first describe the evaporation of a solvent droplet in confined geometry. This new method was found to be useful to measure, with a high accuracy, the product of the vapour diffusion coefficient and the vapour pressure of the solvent. In the second part, we will consider the case of a droplet of complex fluid. Two examples will be addressed: a colloidal suspension of hard spheres; and, a star polymer solution. We will show how the presence of phase boundaries in the bulk phase diagram affects the drying behaviour of the droplet.

About Condensed Matter lunchtime seminars

This is a weekly series of informal talks given primarily by members of the institute of condensed matter and complex systems, but is also open to members of other groups and external visitors. The aim of the series is to promote discussion and learning of various topics at a level suitable to the broad background of the group. Everyone is welcome to attend..
