Event details
The literature on this subject is a mess. Most studies do not pay enough attention to the fact that the polymer solution is not simply a continuous viscous medium but rather that it has its own structure and dynamics which directly affect the diffusion (Brownian motion) of an immersed particle. A notable exception is the recent paper of Cohen Stuart and co-workers [1] who discuss the process as a ''caging'' of the particle by the polymer. I will review this work, starting with a reminder of the cage picture of diffusion in concentrated particle suspensions. van der Gucht et al., PRE 67, 051106, 2003
About Condensed Matter lunchtime seminars
This is a weekly series of informal talks given primarily by members of the institute of condensed matter and complex systems, but is also open to members of other groups and external visitors. The aim of the series is to promote discussion and learning of various topics at a level suitable to the broad background of the group. Everyone is welcome to attend..
