Event details

The class of one dimensional models known as 'simple exclusion processes' have become very familiar to anyone working in nonequilibrium statistic physics (and no doubt to all those working in the vicinity of those working in nonequilibrium statistic physics). These simple models provide an analytically tractable nonequilibrium analogy to the Ising model, and are invaluable for studying the unique phenomena of nonequilibrium systems, for which there is not yet a fundamental theoretical framework. I shall present, through mean-field and Monte Carlo analysis, a variation of the simple exclusion process in which particles hop along a one dimensional lattice which extends as they reach the end. This model was developed with growth processes in biological systems in mind.

About Condensed Matter lunchtime seminars

This is a weekly series of informal talks given primarily by members of the institute of condensed matter and complex systems, but is also open to members of other groups and external visitors. The aim of the series is to promote discussion and learning of various topics at a level suitable to the broad background of the group. Everyone is welcome to attend..
