Event details

Even with the most advanced techniques the conventional diamond anvil cell is limited to pressures below 400 GPa. Recent work by Dubrovinsky et al. has opened the possibility to access much higher pressures in the range of 800 GPa using secondary micro anvils within a traditional diamond anvil cell in a cell within a cell arrangement. So far this technique has been limited to x-ray studies of the compression of hard metals. In this talk I will outline our attempts to develop this technique for Raman spectroscopy of small molecules.

About Condensed Matter lunchtime seminars

This is a weekly series of informal talks given primarily by members of the institute of condensed matter and complex systems, but is also open to members of other groups and external visitors. The aim of the series is to promote discussion and learning of various topics at a level suitable to the broad background of the group. Everyone is welcome to attend..
