During the last years the framework of mode coupling theory for the glass transition in supercooled liquids (MCT) has been extended by my PhD supervisor Matthias Fuchs together with Mike to account for shear flow induced effects. I would like to focus in my ThC contribution more on the basis of the approach in favour of the somewhat more cumbersome detailed outcome.

This comprises the description of many particle systems under shear by introducing a modified Smoluchowski operator and the time evolution of wavevector-depending quantities. Correlation functions of the latter like the stuctural distortion under shear or the apparent shear viscosity emerge as generalized Green-Kubo relations (GKR). Interestingly this means expressing quantities infinitely far away from equilibrium through equilibrium averages. The evaluation of the GKR via MCT will finally be sketched for convenience.

Stay tuned! After we coped with the bulk of theoretical concepts, I will proceed with lighter stuff on 17 Dec in the lunchtime seminar by presenting some results for hard discs.
