Theory of Elasticity - applications to the physics of bacteria

In this talk I will present a brief overview of the (almost exclusively linear) elasticity theory from a point of view of a physicist (myself) interested in applying it to bacteria and bacterial colonies. I will discuss what types of problems one may encounter, basic notation, some fundamental equations, and their solutions in a few special, highly-symmetric cases. This is the first of a series of "continuum mechanics" talks that will be delivered by the members of "continuum mechanics club", some of them as regular "theory club" talks, but most at separate meetings of the said "club" (date/time not known yet).
