In 1952, A. M. Turing proposed the reaction-diffusion theory of morphogenesis. His simple but profound observation was that an otherwise stable system of chemical rate equations may develop spatial instabilities if the chemicals are allowed to diffuse. I will explain the origin of this instability and present few examples where such instabilites arise.
