Event details

Are we cruising the information highway with our car doors unlocked? Is identity theft and online fraud going to continue to increase indefinately? If Bob wants to send a secret message to his friend Alice how can he tell if it is intercepted by nasty Eve on the way?

"What if Bob happened to have a high-stability, liquid-helium-cooled, solid-immersion-lens-enhanced, sub-diffraction-limited, confocal microscope, focussed onto a single charge-tuneable quantum dot?" I hear you ask.

I will discuss the outcome of my final year project towards a quantum-dot based single photon source, proving the existance of quantum mechanics through experiment, and maybe... some day... saving the world...
