Experimental Particle Physics seminar

Testing lepton-flavour universality with the LHCb experiment

  • Event time: 2:00pm until 3:00pm
  • Event date: 26th May 2017
  • Speaker: Greig Cowan (Formerly School of Physics & Astronomy, University of Edinburgh)
  • Location: Higgs Centre Seminar Room, Room 4305,

Event details

Rare flavour-changing neutral current processes such as b -> s l+ l- are sensitive probes of effects beyond the Standard Model (SM). Recently, the LHCb experiment at CERN has measured several of these processes that test the nature of lepton-flavour universality in the SM. I will review the latest measurements, the connections between them and highlight some new physics models that attempt to explain the anomalies. Future directions of the experimental research will be presented.
