Event details

Lyotropic lamellare phases under shear flow form structures of closed packed of monodisperse multilamellar vesicles (ONIONS). We used Tow Colour Light Scattering to probe the dynamics of a densely packed phase of onions. Results show the presense of two modes: fast dynamic due to membrane fluctuations and can be related to the elastic properties; and frozen fluctuation related to the size and distribution of onions, suggesting that this is a good model system for studying dynamics close to the glass transition.

About Condensed Matter lunchtime seminars

This is a weekly series of informal talks given primarily by members of the institute of condensed matter and complex systems, but is also open to members of other groups and external visitors. The aim of the series is to promote discussion and learning of various topics at a level suitable to the broad background of the group. Everyone is welcome to attend..
