45 years of Directed Percolation
In this talk I will give an overview of the problem of Directed Percolation first introduced some 45 years ago: 'Percolation Processes' S .R. Broadbent and J. M. Hammersley Proc. Camb. Phil. Soc. 53 (1957) p629. The basic problem has reappeared in different contexts and in different guises down the years and I will give examples of the many applications and related systems. In particular I will stress how the Directed Percolation ''Universality Class'' is ubiquitous in the study of nonequilibrium systems such as systems possessing an absorbing state. Finally I will give an overview of open problems and questions of solvability of the system.
This is a weekly series of informal talks given primarily by members of the soft condensed matter and statistical mechanics groups, but is also open to members of other groups and external visitors. The aim of the series is to promote discussion and learning of various topics at a level suitable to the broad background of the group. Everyone is welcome to attend..
