Crystal structures of hydrogen bonded small molecules
Crystal structures of hydrogen bonded small molecules
- Event time: 1:00pm
- Event date: 27th May 2002
- Speaker: Pamela A. McGregor (University of Edinburgh)
- Location: Room 2511, James Clerk Maxwell Building (JCMB) James Clerk Maxwell Building Peter Guthrie Tait Road Edinburgh EH9 3FD GB
Event details
Differences between low temperature and the corresponding high pressure phases of hydrogen bonded small molecules have shown a great diversity in molecular packing arrangements. New structural motifs through variance in hydrogen bonding and even molecular conformational changes are observed. This talk will discuss the techniques used to study molecules which are liquids under ambient conditions, and results obtained from the study of the quartenary alcohols, cyclobutanol and tertiary butanol, and the alpha-omega di-alcohols.
About Condensed Matter lunchtime seminars
This is a weekly series of informal talks given primarily by members of the institute of condensed matter and complex systems, but is also open to members of other groups and external visitors. The aim of the series is to promote discussion and learning of various topics at a level suitable to the broad background of the group. Everyone is welcome to attend..
