Statistical Physics and Complexity Group meeting
Diffusion with stochastic resetting (part I)
- Event time: 11:30am
- Event date: 26th October 2011
- Speaker: Professor Martin Evans (School of Physics & Astronomy, University of Edinburgh)
- Location: Room 2511, James Clerk Maxwell Building (JCMB) James Clerk Maxwell Building Peter Guthrie Tait Road Edinburgh EH9 3FD GB
Event details
I will consider the addition of a rate of 'resetting' a diffusive particle to its starting point - think of searching for an object such as one keys and after some time going back to the starting point of the search (where the keys ought to be). I will show how resetting drastically changes the first passage time statistics of a diffusive search.
