Quantum instability of the Universe ground state
Higgs Centre colloquium
Quantum instability of the Universe ground state
- Event time: 1:00pm
- Event date: 6th May 2016
- Speaker: Giovanni Ridolfi (University of Genvoa)
- Location: Higgs Centre Seminar Room, Room 4305, James Clerk Maxwell Building (JCMB) James Clerk Maxwell Building Peter Guthrie Tait Road Edinburgh EH9 3FD GB
Event details
The possibility that the quantum state of the present Universe is not a stable one is investigated, in the light of recent particle physics observations, in particular the discovery of the Higgs boson. The physics behind the decay mechanism of an unstable ground state is discussed in some detail. The effects of some non standard physics scenarios are reviewed and discussed.
