Event details

DAMIC for Dark Matter In CCD is a program of direct dark matter search using thick CCDs as target and sensor.

Thanks to the precise energy estimation, the spatial resolution and the very low noise of these sensors, DAMIC is sensitive to low mass WIMP (below 10GeV/c^2) through nuclear recoil but also to hidden sector model through interaction of DM particles with electrons.

After describing the motivation and the detection technique itself, I will review the recent results of DAMIC at Snolab including the WIMP search with 11kg.day of exposure obtained with 42 grams of target and detail the specification and status of DAMIC-M, the next generation of DAMIC detectors, which will operate about 1kg of target CCDs with an energy threshold dramatically lowered.
