PPE Computing 2023/2024

Event details

Computing is an all-encompassing field that supports and hopefully complements all of the research done in PPE and probably now all other scientific research fields.

Whilst it's not expected for everyone to become a computing expert in all things, there are some areas where it is helpful to know of recent developments.

In this talk I'll summarise the current state of the nation as well as advertising new resources which will prove useful to the PPE group.

Computing in UoE during 2023/2024 is still in a state of flux.

In in the next 12 months within UoE there are several major infrastructure projects which will have varying levels of impact on us in PPE.

The goal of all of this is to improve the facilities within the university moving forward and I'll give an overview of these proposed changes.

Coding and working with computing in HEP in a changing landscape is a mixed affair.

To better understand our groups uses/needs I'll be sharing the results from a short survey I shared earlier in the summer.

I'll talk briefly about some new tools people may and may have not heard of, how they might be used by us effectively in HEP, and some features some people might not be aware of.
