Teaching and Learning 2023-24
Find out what hybrid teaching will be like for undergraduate students
On behalf of the whole School of Physics & Astronomy, we are very much looking forward to welcoming you to the University of Edinburgh community in September.
Course Delivery and digital resources
We hope you are looking forward to in-person lectures, tutorials, workshops and laboratory classes for your courses in the coming academic year. In support of this, we have found that most coursework is most easily prepared and submitted on-line: to this end, we want to make sure you have the right resources you need to study effectively. Whether it's writing equations or sketching a graph, hand writing and hand drawing remain a central element of communication in physics. To facilitate this we will provide all new students in the School of Physics & Astronomy with their own iPad and stylus so that you can take notes and complete your coursework assignments in the natural medium of physics, easily upload your handwritten work, and communicate with staff, tutors and fellow students. We will also pre-load the tablets with the all the software you need to engage with our learning materials, teaching sessions and discussion groups. The iPad will be yours to keep.
While we do not want to suggest that an iPad will supply all of your computing needs for your whole degree, we believe that this is the best way to ensure you all have equal access to materials and coursework submission methods from the very start of your degree.
We are looking forward to launching into the new academic year and meeting with you all; we hope that you are equally excited to start your studies in the School of Physics & Astronomy!
