Colloidal Glasses under Shear Strain

Condensed Matter lunchtime seminar

Colloidal Glasses under Shear Strain

  • Event time: 1:00pm
  • Event date: 9th October 2000
  • Speaker: George Petekidis (University of Edinburgh)
  • Location: Room 2511,

Event details

Colloidal glasses under shear exhibit interesting phenomena like yield and crystallisation. We investigate these by the technique of Diffusing Wave Spectroscopy (DWS) echo which can follow the rearrangements of the sample under oscillatory shear. In this talk I will present an introduction to the technique and some measurements of suspensions of PMMA particles in the glass phase region.

About Condensed Matter lunchtime seminars

This is a weekly series of informal talks given primarily by members of the institute of condensed matter and complex systems, but is also open to members of other groups and external visitors. The aim of the series is to promote discussion and learning of various topics at a level suitable to the broad background of the group. Everyone is welcome to attend..
