Testing the laws of gravity on cosmological scales
Particle Physics Theory seminar
Testing the laws of gravity on cosmological scales
- Event time: 2:00pm
- Event date: 26th October 2011
- Speaker: Fergus Simpson (Royal Observatory Edinburgh)
- Location: Lecture Theatre C, James Clerk Maxwell Building (JCMB) James Clerk Maxwell Building Peter Guthrie Tait Road Edinburgh EH9 3FD GB
Event details
The accelerated expansion of the Universe has led physicists to question whether Einstein's laws of gravity remain valid on cosmological scales, spanning many millions of light years. I will review recent efforts to test whether the strength of gravity in the cosmos remains consistent with what we observe on Earth.
About Particle Physics Theory seminars
The Particle Physics Theory seminar is a weekly series of talks reflecting the diverse interests of the group. Topics include analytic and numerical calculations based on the Standard Model of elementary particle physics, theories exploring new physics, as well as more formal developments in gauge theories and gravity..
