# Determination of the top quark mass at the LHC with emphasis on the theoretical uncertainties

#### Determination of the top quark mass at the LHC with emphasis on the theoretical uncertainties

- Event time: 3:00pm
- Event date: 14th May 2014
- Speaker: Alexander Mitov (University of Cambridge)
- Location: Higgs Centre Seminar Room, Room 4305, James Clerk Maxwell Building (JCMB) James Clerk Maxwell Building Peter Guthrie Tait Road Edinburgh EH9 3FD GB

### Event details

The top quark mass is one of the best known parameters in the Standard Model. Yet, questions about the convincing estimate of the theory uncertainties persist. In this talk I’ll describe a new method for extracting the top mass at the LHC which offers a reasonable sensitivity and good control over the theory uncertainties (and is clean to measure). I’ll elaborate on the various lessons one can learn about the sizes of various effects and how dramatically they can impact the extracted top mass.

### About Particle Physics Theory seminars

The Particle Physics Theory seminar is a weekly series of talks reflecting the diverse interests of the group. Topics include analytic and numerical calculations based on the Standard Model of elementary particle physics, theories exploring new physics, as well as more formal developments in gauge theories and gravity..
