- Event time: 11:30am until 12:30pm
- Event date: 6th December 2017
- Speaker: Emil Mallmin (Formerly School of Physics & Astronomy, University of Edinburgh)
- Location: Room 2511, James Clerk Maxwell Building (JCMB) James Clerk Maxwell Building Peter Guthrie Tait Road Edinburgh EH9 3FD GB
Event details
A follow-up to my previous talk on fluctuation theorems: Detailed knowledge about a system (information gained though measurement) allows useful work to be extracted, even from thermal fluctuations. Fluctuation theorems have provided a new framework for understanding this inter-conversion of information and work. I will introduce some of the basic ideas and results in this field.
