Particle Physics Theory seminar
Hadronic tau decays and the strong coupling
- Event time: 2:00pm
- Event date: 2nd May 2018
- Speaker: Professor Maarten Golterman (San Francisco State University)
- Location: Higgs Centre Seminar Room, Room 4305, James Clerk Maxwell Building (JCMB) James Clerk Maxwell Building Peter Guthrie Tait Road Edinburgh EH9 3FD GB
Event details
I will discuss our recent determination of the strong coupling from hadronic tau decays, as measured by ALEPH and OPAL. This determination is controversial, because the rather low tau mass makes it necessary to disentangle non-perturbative effects that "contaminate" perturbation theory. In particular, I will consider effects due to the violation of quark-hadron duality.

About Particle Physics Theory seminars
The Particle Physics Theory seminar is a weekly series of talks reflecting the diverse interests of the group. Topics include analytic and numerical calculations based on the Standard Model of elementary particle physics, theories exploring new physics, as well as more formal developments in gauge theories and gravity..
