The random energy model: an introduction.
Statistical Physics and Complexity Group meeting
The random energy model: an introduction.
- Event time: 11:30am until 12:30pm
- Event date: 20th June 2018
- Speaker: Dr Peter Mottishaw (School of Physics & Astronomy, University of Edinburgh)
- Location: Room 2511, James Clerk Maxwell Building (JCMB) James Clerk Maxwell Building Peter Guthrie Tait Road Edinburgh EH9 3FD GB
Event details
The talk will focus on the random energy model as the simplest example of a spin glass transition. The style will be pedagogical - feel free to ask as many questions as you like :-)
- Thermodynamic argument for a freezing transition using the micro-canonical ensemble.
- Integer moments of the partition function.
- Replica method to obtain the free energy.
- Replica symmetry breaking and the overlap distribution.
- (if time) Exact approach to obtaining free energy and overlap distribution.
If there is interest I can complete the talk next week.
