# Classical black hole scattering from a worldline QFT

#### Classical black hole scattering from a worldline QFT

- Event time: 5:00pm
- Event date: 10th February 2021
- Speaker: Dr Gustav Mogull (Max Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics (Potsdam))
- Location: Online - see below

### Event details

I will investigate the link between scalar-graviton S-matrix elements and expectation values of operators in a worldline QFT (WQFT), both used to describe classical scattering of two black holes in the post-Minkowskian (PM) expansion. The link provides a theoretical framework connecting recent state-of-the-art efforts to compute high-precision observables relevant for gravitational wave astronomy. As a practical application I will also show how to compute the far-field waveform produced from a black hole scattering event, to leading PM order.

### About Particle Physics Theory seminars

The Particle Physics Theory seminar is a weekly series of talks reflecting the diverse interests of the group. Topics include analytic and numerical calculations based on the Standard Model of elementary particle physics, theories exploring new physics, as well as more formal developments in gauge theories and gravity..
