Classical black hole scattering from a worldline QFT

  • Event time: 5:00pm
  • Event date: 10th February 2021
  • Speaker: Dr Gustav Mogull (Max Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics (Potsdam))
  • Location: Online - see below

Event details

I will investigate the link between scalar-graviton S-matrix elements and expectation values of operators in a worldline QFT (WQFT), both used to describe classical scattering of two black holes in the post-Minkowskian (PM) expansion. The link provides a theoretical framework connecting recent state-of-the-art efforts to compute high-precision observables relevant for gravitational wave astronomy. As a practical application I will also show how to compute the far-field waveform produced from a black hole scattering event, to leading PM order.
