# Probabilistic definition of the perturbative theoretical uncertainty from missing higher orders

#### Probabilistic definition of the perturbative theoretical uncertainty from missing higher orders

- Event time: 2:00pm until 3:00pm
- Event date: 18th May 2022
- Speaker: Marco Bonvini (University of Oxford)
- Location: Online

### Event details

I will present a recent proposal for quantifying theory uncertainties coming from the finite-order truncation of perturbative expansions. The main advantages with respect to canonical methods (in particular scale variation in quantum field theory) are its reliability and the fact that it is probabilistically well defined. I will show some examples and discuss various possibilities.

### About Particle Physics Theory seminars

The Particle Physics Theory seminar is a weekly series of talks reflecting the diverse interests of the group. Topics include analytic and numerical calculations based on the Standard Model of elementary particle physics, theories exploring new physics, as well as more formal developments in gauge theories and gravity..
