Title: Inclusive semi-leptonic decays of heavy mesons from lattice QCD

Abstract:

Among the many anomalies and tensions in flavour physics, one of the most persistent is the tension between the inclusive and exclusive determination of the CKM matrix elements |V_{cb}| and |V_{ub}|. While the study of exclusive decays is now a standard practice in the lattice QCD community, until recently the only method available to theorists to study inclusive decays was the operator product expansion (OPE). In this talk I will review the newly proposed methods to perform the calculation of inclusive decay rates and lepton energy moments using lattice QCD. The main results concern the study of the D-meson inclusive semi-leptonic decay and its comparison to experimental data, allowing for stringent Standard Model tests in the sector of Flavour physics. Additionally, this work sets the stage to a future project involving the B meson(s).

About Particle Physics Theory seminars

The Particle Physics Theory seminar is a weekly series of talks reflecting the diverse interests of the group. Topics include analytic and numerical calculations based on the Standard Model of elementary particle physics, theories exploring new physics, as well as more formal developments in gauge theories and gravity..
