Event details
This is going to be an experimental talk where several important taboos will be out in the open. It will be a mashup of “F***up night” and “10 things that you need to know about…”. I will insert personal and side stories which will be intertwined with academic research on stressors in academia, a pressure cooker where the workforce is abundant but the space is tight. Topics include the shame of “imperfect” educational backgrounds; the value of community in networking; the space for non-linear career paths; the plague of perfectionism and burnout; the increasing inadequacy of the “publish or perish” mentality; the importance of luck; the logical fallacy of “we are not in this for money”; and how healthy academics cannot exist without people skills (and simply being human).
