Event details
A possibility to overcome certain difficulties with numerical simulations of quantum field theories is to use quantum computers rather than classical ones. This poses several theoretical challenges, as it requires working in a Hamiltonian picture with a finite-dimensional Hilbert space. For gauge theories, one possibility is to replace the gauge group with one of its finite subgroups. After reviewing the problem and its possible solutions, we will discuss the ongoing search for a formulation which would allow one to recover continuum gauge theories from locally finite-dimensional models.
About Particle Physics Theory seminars
The Particle Physics Theory seminar is a weekly series of talks reflecting the diverse interests of the group. Topics include analytic and numerical calculations based on the Standard Model of elementary particle physics, theories exploring new physics, as well as more formal developments in gauge theories and gravity..
