Event details
Biological cells can be viewed as specialized droplets. Droplets can be viewed as primitive form of cells. Can we create an experimental model with droplets to understand biological cells? Evaporation kills a droplet the way desiccation kills a cell. I am exploring three ways by which a droplet can hold-on to its water: solutes, neighbours and encapsulation. The idea is to use sessile droplets as models to know the physical repertoire of biological cells, physics behind drying, survival in colonies with neighbours and how a skin over the volatile interior enhances the survival against the antagonist: the evaporation.
About Condensed Matter seminars
This is a weekly series of informal talks given primarily by members of the institute of condensed matter and complex systems, but is also open to members of other groups and external visitors. The aim of the series is to promote discussion and learning of various topics at a level suitable to the broad background of the group. Everyone is welcome to attend..
