LZ cleanliness studies
As LZ is being built it is crucial to maintain cleanliness of all surfaces, especially those that will be in contact with the liquid xenon. Any components exposed to air will become contaminated by radon plating out on surfaces. Similarly, dust contains uranium and thorium, which in turn produces more radon. Uranium, thorium, radon, the products of their decay chains, as well as several other possible contaminants, are radioactive. Methods to control and monitor the cleanliness of these surfaces though construction is highly important.
