Event details
This is a story of high-pressure studies on gallium. It began in 1935 when P.W. Bridgman detected a transition to a high-pressure modification. Diffraction studies on Ga over the past 40 years reported a number of crystal structures, metastable and stable at high pressure and low temperature. There are still enough unsolved phenomena in Ga to make my PhD work exciting. I will show you my fresh results on a complex structure, and a movie in reciprocal space!
About Condensed Matter lunchtime seminars
This is a weekly series of informal talks given primarily by members of the institute of condensed matter and complex systems, but is also open to members of other groups and external visitors. The aim of the series is to promote discussion and learning of various topics at a level suitable to the broad background of the group. Everyone is welcome to attend..
