Event details
In my first year I have been studying a microemulsion system, which phase separates via spinodal decompostion in a similar manner to binary molecular fluids. The system shows a critical phase transition and has slow dynamics compared to those in binary molecular liquid mixtures, which allowes one to study the physical processes as they happen. Insertion of colloids in this system introduces new interactions and thus new behaviour. The system is studied with optical and confocal microscopy. Further I would like to introduce a second project I recently started working on. I will study lamellar phases made up with nonionic surfactant. Later on I will introduce nanoparticles in this system, and try to understand the new behaviour.
About Condensed Matter lunchtime seminars
This is a weekly series of informal talks given primarily by members of the institute of condensed matter and complex systems, but is also open to members of other groups and external visitors. The aim of the series is to promote discussion and learning of various topics at a level suitable to the broad background of the group. Everyone is welcome to attend..
