Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations of osmosis
Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations of osmosis
- Event time: 1:00pm
- Event date: 31st January 2011
- Speaker: Tom Lion (University of Edinburgh)
- Location: Room 2511, James Clerk Maxwell Building (JCMB) James Clerk Maxwell Building Peter Guthrie Tait Road Edinburgh EH9 3FD GB
Event details
Osmosis is ubiquitous in nature, but despite its importance, a microscopic understanding of the process remains elusive. Using the technique of MD simulation, current work has focussed on gaining a better understanding of the mechanisms occurring during equilibrium, and how the resulting osmotic pressure difference may be measured. This work will be presented with the aid of plenty of pictures. To finish, additional work concerning the relaxation towards the equilibrium state will be outlined.
About Condensed Matter lunchtime seminars
This is a weekly series of informal talks given primarily by members of the institute of condensed matter and complex systems, but is also open to members of other groups and external visitors. The aim of the series is to promote discussion and learning of various topics at a level suitable to the broad background of the group. Everyone is welcome to attend..
