Event details

As someone who has successfully led a spin out from University of Edinburgh, Ben Panter will share his tips and tricks for business success.

Ben will be walking us through establishing his company Blackford Analysis, https://www.blackfordanalysis.com/ through both the pre- and post- spinout phases. Ben will also talk about the wider opportunities for PhD students and Postdocs, if they choose, like him, not to take a traditional academic career path.

After a PhD in Astronomy in Edinburgh and a fellowship in the Max Planck Institute, Ben decided to move into a different area of research. The following four years were spent applying his research to medical imaging, and ultimately led to the spin out of Blackford Analysis. Eight years later the company is thriving, with product serving over 320 radiology sites and 500 ophthalmology sites, mostly in the USA. Along the way, Blackford has raised over £4M of investment and created 20 jobs.
