Statistical Physics and Complexity Group meeting
Swimming crystals and Simha-Ramaswamy instability
- Event time: 11:30am
- Event date: 29th June 2016
- Speaker: Professor Alexander Morozov (School of Physics & Astronomy, University of Edinburgh)
- Location: Room 2511, James Clerk Maxwell Building (JCMB) James Clerk Maxwell Building Peter Guthrie Tait Road Edinburgh EH9 3FD GB
Event details
I will discuss the origin of the instability proposed by Simha and Ramaswamy, Phys Rev Lett 89, 058101 (2002) in generic models of active matter and show how it naturally arises in suspensions of swimming microorganisms.
