Event details

OGI Bio Ltd is a Scottish Biotechnology company founded to revolutionise the growth and analysis of microbes. Dr Alex McVey and his co-founder Prof. Teuta Pilizota started OGI Bio in February 2020 to deliver a reliable and affordable route into automated microbial culturing through a stripped back, low-cost, plug-and-play culturing device. Prior to this, Alex had been working as a postdoc in Teuta's lab in the School of Biology where Teuta and he conceived the ideas and developed the original prototype devices that underpin OGI Bio's products today. Alex's talk will cover the journey from university side project through the trials of company formation to raising investment and commercialisation. He'll share some of the stories of the things that have worked, and plenty that didn't, and try to explain how a physics undergraduate ended up as CEO of a biotechnology company.

About Entrepreneurship events

We run a series of Entrepreneurship Masterclasses and Start-Up Clinics for staff and postgraduate students. Our workshops link understanding in physics to the functionality of ingredients, formulations and food processes. These are open to the public. .
